Confidence

What is a wedding without kids taking over?  Our family has quite a few performers in it and they are pretty good at what they do.  After many of the guests went home, the kids took over the microphone and started singing some songs.

It was here that I noticed a distinct change in Kiya.  Something has happened this year that has caused Kiya to become more confident in who she is.  And quite frankly it shocked me, I think it shocked my niece too lol.  The kids were standing at the front of the buffet table, all eyes on them and they started singing a song, something about "in my castle glowing" ( I don't know who it is) and my niece didn't remember the words to one part in the song, the part that shocked me was that Kiya pulled the mic out of her hand and started singing that part of the song.  The rest was a blur because I couldn't pull my mouth off the floor fast enough.  This is different behaviour for Kiya, normally she is the shy one but it seems someone is coming out of her shell.

Then I come back from the lou and Mylee is talking to the DJ, I thought she was requesting a song but next thing you know I am being asked if Mylee can read.  Well she can, but she is only 5 and sounding out the big words still gives her some trouble.  Well within the next minute she was up on a chair, microphone in hand singing Call Me Maybe, and she did so well.  There was one part where brutal honesty came through "I don't know this part" had everyone in either smiles or small giggles.  What surprised me was she asked for it all by herself.  She took the intiative to go and ask, then with a small bit of coaching from her cousin got through the entire song.

My girls always impress me, but watching them Saturday night had me glowing with pride. I love when my kids do things for themselves in a positive way, it makes the world seem like a brighter place.
