Well it has finally happened. Yep that time in your life where you wonder what you want to do and then you think "I'm gonna read".
I have completed about 10 books in the last month, Darryl has gotten through probably 4, Kiya has started the Harry Potter series and is on book 3, and Mylee is eating books up just like a bookworm. She has started to read the Magic Treehouse Series and loves it.
It is nice to sit on the back deck with a glass of wine, my book and my kids sitting beside me with a book or ereader in their hand and enjoying the quiet. I have always found reading important, I also get lost in the story and don't go to bed on time, but that's another issue for another day. I have my summer list, slowly crossing them off, but I love the classics and can reread anything by Jane Austen or the Bronte sisters over and over again.
Whether it is reading to my children, reading for personal fulfillment, or re-educating myself with some new books that help me understand my class better, I love to read. I think that is a family trait, most of my family are avid readers and I am so glad that Darryl and I passed that on to our children.

My Day Off
For the first time in a while, the parent volunteers for the kindergarten field trip were in abundance, so I got the day off. I decided to go down to the Danforth to try to find a dress for a wedding we are attending in September. I want a classic dress, something 60's ish. I am really beginning to love that word....ish. Judge me all you want lol.
So after a good walk and some really interesting stores later, I stopped for lunch. Was so yummy, had a nice glass of wine and a sandwich and salad. I felt like a million bucks. I am really beginning to understand the concept behind taking time for me. I don't do girls nights once a month or book clubs or anything like that as I have always put my kids first, then Darryl, then I came well....behind whoever else was in line for something they needed. Now I find that once a week I spend some time on me. I always considered this selfish, and I am now realizing just how wrong I was.
As a mom you need time to reflect on yourself, strengthen your soul and indulge in you. So for all you new moms, expecting moms, or even just ladies in general my one little piece of advise, spend a little time on yourself once a week. Yes the laundry will pile up, the dishes will be there when you are done, but even if you just sit for an hour with a book or a magazine or something as simple as watching a tv show and painting your nails, do it. For your kids, for your husband but most of all for yourself, because without it, you will be stressed out, frustrated and possibly depressed.
It has taken me a long time to learn this. 10years in fact, but now, it is essential that I get this time, to make me a better person, a better mom and a better wife.

Mylee's First Field Trip
Well it is official, Mylee is no longer little. She has become a real student with her first field trip under her belt and everything.
The kindies all went to Earthbound. Earthbound is a farm with a petting zoo and wagon rides and all that kind of stuff. When the kids came back they were exhausted. The teachers weren't so lively either, and I know everyone had a great time.
When asked what was the best part of her trip, Mylee replied "riding on the school bus", when asked what her least favourite was, she said "touching the pigs". I was interested in this idea and asked why. She said because they had hair on them and they were rough. She can be so entertaining some days.

More Mylee Work
Mylee's teacher always makes it a point to showcase her students work. So as I walk down the hallway, I find myself distracted and look at the artwork. Here are a couple that are up on the wall now.
Aladdin
Well I just aged 10 years doing Kiya's make up for the stage. The coordinators wanted to make the stage makeup pop, and well you tell me....does she pop?
Not to mention I just had a heart attack thinking about her going to clubs. Why does she grow up so fast?
The evening performance was just incredible. The kids were bang on, they were excited and they did fabulous. I was able to video it so that each child can have a copy. Daddy bought Kiya roses and was sitting there enthralled with the whole thing. She definitely did him proud.
Uncle Paul, Auntie Sue, Maggie and Molly were also able to join us that night. And Molly ended up with a gold coin from Prince Ali himself!

Welcome to Agrabah! |

When asked if she would do it again, she replied "Ya it was fun". So even after all that hard work, she is willing to put herself out there. How can I not be over the moon with pride?
Kiya's Musical
Have you ever been waiting for something so magical that you couldn't sleep? Well that is how Darryl and I have been feeling the last couple of days as we were eagerly waiting for Kiya's debut in her first Musical at school.
For a child who is normally shy around people, she has come out of her shell and earned a spot as a main character on stage. Darryl has been so excited because he too starred in a school production and feel Kiya is carrying on the torch. So after months of preparation, tears, struggles with costumes, and late night rehearsals, it has come to the big day. Dress rehearsal!!!!
Mylee was able to sit in amongst the audience and I snuck in because my class was in there as well. Well I was almost in tears of pride for her. She did so amazing, took her cues like a pro and made me quite proud.
My mom and Jason and Gwen were able to attend the afternoon performance and again Jasmine made me cry. My mom brought Kiya flowers and Kiya carried them around until the end of school. It was a magical moment. Her first show, her first performance in front of someone other than me. We were all impressed.

Another Anniversary
We celebrated another anniversary this month, Mom and Dad's. It is so nice to sit down and celebrate a marriage that has lasted 40 years. We went out for dinner, the entire family, and it was nice to sit and just relax for a while. We laughed, had some great food and enjoyed just being a family.
My fortune cookie was quite interesting. Thought I would share it with you:
We are now through almost half the year, and I can tell you that this fortune is quite accurate!!! I am happy, and I am happy for those who are happy. For those who are not happy, lets change things to make your life happy, your spirit fulfilled and your energy high!!!!

Macklin's 25th Anniversary
After months of preparation and scheduling and inviting etc...etc...the big day finally came. What a wonderful adventure. I have met some amazing people, fell in love with the stories I was told and now know more history about the Macklin family than most people do.
The work involved in the planning of this was something from the heart, sure it will look great on my resume, but honestly, the stories I have heard from past teachers, graduates and staff have me truly believing that Macklin can be a second home for some people. I know when I walk through those doors for work everyday that there is a family waiting behind it. And lucky for me, my "family" added some new members. Thank you everyone who attended, I had so much fun, my girls had so much fun and in the end, the smiles and giggles, hardy laughter and cheeky stories are what made the day magical.
Because of safety concerns I can't post pics of the day but here are the girls after the face painting lady got them and my wonderful flowers I was presented with for all the hard work. A former VP also said some wonderful things about me and my heart was completely warmed.

May!
I think this May has been the busiest we have ever encountered, even when we have had weddings in this month. Luckily we have come through unscathed and ready for June. The next blog posts are going to be about May, not so much June, but as a result of being so incredibly busy, well I fell behind again.
I hope you enjoy reading about the fun we had, because we are all in for a good long rest after school gets out. OR maybe not!!!
