Opinion: Easter Egg Hunts

So I have heard something from a bunch of people lately about the age to cut off Easter Egg hunts.  Now I am of an opinion that you are never too old to do a hunt.  I mean really, how many of us don't get a huge smile on our face when we find the egg before our little ones?

So tell me, What age is too old?

Mylee

Mylee has an amazing set of teachers this year.  They work together as a team and they give the kids a great learning experience.  Mylee is loving every minute of school and when she isn't in school she is a right mess.  I truly appreciate all the art work that they put up around the school and allow me to photograph with my phone.  Mylee's printing and creativity are so much fun to look at, so I thought I would share some with you.  Let me know if you need help deciphering the words she uses.

Dinners

This week was a rough one, the girl's and I butt heads quite often and finally on Wednesday I just broke down.  I felt very disrespected and let them know.  Now the good thing about this is that I really get to talk to my girls, like young ladies and not little kids, I let them know my feelings were hurt and they understood why.

Together we cleaned the house up, most of it their stuff being all over and not picking up the garbage they decided to leave around.  And then we made dinner together.  Mylee is learning to cut vegetables with a plastic knife (still a little leery of the sharp ones) and Kiya is learning how to properly stir a pan and cook on the stove.  Kiya also likes to have final word on taste as well, so we always sample just before it is done.

I always find turning the negative into a positive the right way to go.  And although we all had a good cry with each other, I find this method better than yelling and screaming my frustration at them.  I want to show them the right path to take and how to handle stress in a positive way, and although I am still working on the not crying my frustration away, I feel quite good that we can handle these moments as a family who loves and cares for each other enough to understand and work together.

Kiya

I am so proud of my girls and in totally different ways.  They each have their own little world to work though and Kiya is coming into her own. And though it makes me sad that she is no longer the little girl that would smile at you with big bright eyes and just giggle, I am so impressed with the young lady she is becoming.  She is helpful, caring, intelligent and loving.  All the qualities I want her to have in life, and yet she is also determined, willful and strong.  I feel sorry for the boys who come into her life later on because if she continues in this way she isn't settling for someone she can't respect and who doesn't respect her.  And in all honesty, that is a load off my mind.

Dinner

Ever have one of those dinners that makes you so incredibly full that you could puke.  Yep that is what happens when we go to my mom's house and Poppie cooks for us.  Now I will admit that it is my own gluttonous fault, because me having 2 helpings of everything when I can barely finish a bowl of cereal in the morning with do that kind of thing to you.

This time he made us roast beef, mashed potatoes, butternut squash and glazed carrots.  So yummy, and soooooo filling.  And then came dessert.  Now I should warn you, I have changed my eating habits to include less sugar, fats and carbs so indulging in this was a bad idea in the first place.  But OMG when I put the first spoonful in my mouth I thought I was going to die and go to heaven.  Trust me when I say the picture doesn't do it justice.

Yep trifle, and oh so yummy.  There is no substitute for fresh food.  Would I eat it again....absolutely but I think I would skip dinner first.

Creativity

Creativity runs in our family.  We have all been gifted with some kind of special talent that shows our strength.  With Kiya it is her drawing, with Mylee is her painting and with me it seems to be crafts.

After a crazy week of chaos I was asked to help with a project and of course I go in full steam ahead with research and all the crazy stuff that happens.  Quiet books are quite an amazing activity to make.  Although I must admit the Velcro isn't so quiet.  Making quiet books for kindergarteners is even more fun because you actually get to go back and think about what basics you need to get the goal accomplished.

Here are some pics of the ones we completed:

I hope the people who they were made for enjoy them as much as we enjoyed making them!

And it died.....

My poor laptop has had it.  I guess after 4 years of pictures, recipes, kid's stuff, and well a whole lot of craziness it just decided to quit.  So I am stuck with 3 months of pictures on a hard drive that has to somehow make their way on to Darryl's computer.

I had to go get another one.  And yep, computers are not cheap; especially those that require gaming specs.  So I got a new one!!! And what did I get?  A new MSi computer with a whole bunch of stuff in it that lets me have some fun.

And now I have my least favourite task....installing and downloading all the goodies that I have to.  My camera, my games, and holy windows downloads, never forgetting Norton for antivirus.  I am really liking it though, although biggest problem is learning how to type on keys again, my nails are a lot longer for a keyboard than a key pad.

My favourite part is walking into Best Buy and Future Shop and freaking out the computer guys.  Yes I am a woman who knows exactly what she needs (with coaching from the boss) and if you don't have it then you don't get my money! I just like the look of the guy's face when I tell him what I am looking for.

Making Dinner

Over the past couple weeks Darryl and I have initiated a new project.  The girls are now required to help make family dinner.  Kiya is able to reach the stove safely and her job is normally to cook the meat or stir fry the vegetables.  Mylee is learning the proper way to cut veggies.  She does a really good job.

Last week we decided to make a chicken ceaser salad.  Kiya was in charge of cooking the chicken, which she did amazingly.  Mylee was in charge of the lettuce.  She cut it with a plastic knife and then spun it in the salad spinner.

And this is what it looked like, minus the croutons.  I don't like crunchy bread, but everyone cleaned their plates and said it was yummy.  Wondering what is on the menu for this week.
