So after a busy Saturday evening, we were cleaning out the fridge of leftovers and goodies and we found an interesting thing. Karyn brought it for mom to try and we had our own little adventure trying to figure it out.
There were a stacked pile of these in a netting in the fridge. So our first question was "what is that?"
Our answer, thanks to google and Wikipedia is a RAMBUTAN. Please don't ask me to pronounce that because I wouldn't know where to start.
Second question was "how do we eat it?" And this is where it got fun, and messy. The key to "peeling" this fruit is to find the seam, squeeze to pop it open and then slide out the fruit inside. It is a opaque clear fruit that is quite juicy and has a seed in the middle that you can't eat. Someone told me it was like a lychee but I couldn't tell you, my lychee comes in a can.
Well this rambutan fruit was enjoyed by all of us, and I highly recommend it. Next lesson though, how to pick the good ones at the store.
